When she graduated in 1992 Amanda Bossard began her study of marine biology in Anchorage at Alaska Pacific University. Bossard began her career working in the commercial seafood sector in 1999. That year she was employed as a fisherman on Murat Aritan's 65 foot halibut vessel, later transformed into a fishing tender. Bossard is now is married to Aritan and they have come together to prove their claims to the industry. They support conservative and sustainable renewable resource management. Otolith is a direct wholesale seafood distributor which was founded within Philadelphia in 2007 by a now-mother of two children, Bella aged 3 and Andre age 1. The husband of the business has a lengthy history in the fish industry that often means they stay separate for a period of five or more months. It is during this time that they're focusing on their financial and environment goals. Bossard's children Isabella, age 12, and son Andre, age 10, come back each year to Southeast Alaska to work in the deckhand role during wild salmon season. Hooks and lines are used to capture their salmon after which they join Aritan for local processors for 2 months. Then they continue to grow their direct seafood sales via Otolith Sustainable Seafood.
